When you take a step forward, do you feel like you simultaneously take 10 steps backward? I have been in your shoes!
After working in 4 different CPA firms and successfully turning a company from a state of loss to handing out quarterly bonuses, I felt like I was ready to launch my very own. In 2012, I took a leap of faith and put all my time and energy into opening an accounting-cum-auditing firm together with a partner. For the first time in a long time, I felt as if I had accomplished something substantial. It was exhilarating!
However, it did not take long before we started experiencing bumps on the road and eventually steered towards a downhill path. In just 2 short years, we had to close our doors. After asking myself countless times “Where did I go wrong?”, I eventually figured out the answer:
- I had not realized how difficult it would be for a new CPA firm to get clients.
- I did not have a clear vision, let alone a long-term one.
- I did not have the core competency. I lacked knowledge in bookkeeping, tax, and other must-know aspects of the business like marketing.
I did not let this setback stop me. Over the next few years, I proactively broadened my horizons, honed my skills, and did everything in my power to become a better business owner. I now help SMEs link data with strategies to thrive and guide businesses towards their corporate growth.
If I can succeed, so can you!
