Getting fired was one of the BEST things to happen to me!

I got fired for the first time in the 18th year of my career! I was not underperforming. I did not have a fall out with my manager or boss. And I certainly did not breach any contract.

I was fired because I was overperforming.

In 2018, I bought a 20% share of my old partner’s company and once again became her business partner. When I started, the firm had 6 employees and a few small clients. In less than 9 months, I brought in several large-scale clients (like a city of Houston) and quadrupled the names on our payroll. I had BIG plans for the firm!

One day, my partner sat me down and did the exact opposite of showing her appreciation for all the hard work I had done—she fired me.

She said that she wanted a business that would bring her just enough to fund her lifestyle and that the recent expansion has been affecting her work-life balance. She also told me that I had great business development skills and customer relations, and that I should leave and start my own company.

Although I was too upset to understand it at the time, being let go was one of the best things to have happened to me. It gave me the push I needed to go to great heights. And for that reason, I will always be grateful to my ex-partner for firing me.
