Passion trumps money, always!

Have you read Elon Reeve Musk‘s book ‘Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future’?

In his book, Musk says that his employees in the early days were willing to come to work for little to no pay.

“Oh, you’re bluffing!” you may think. But it’s true, and here is why…

In 2001, during my very first internship at a CPA firm, I used to commute 90 miles every day to get to the office, work from 9-5, AND take classes at night from 6 to 10pm.

My work was not very important. I was happy making copies, scanning documents, and footing a mile long of number strings. However, I learned so much because I read each document that I made copies of and asked my supervisor for more details about those documents. Several weeks later, when I was asked to prepare them myself, it took me just seconds to put it all together. I learned so much that it helped me get through my auditing class with minimal effort.

Between school, work and commute, I spent over 70 hours a week but it did not matter because I was passionate about my work and was essentially receiving FREE education at the internship and practical experience.

I know many fresh graduates who get paid to learn how to do their jobs for the first 3 months and they still do not appreciate their employers.

If you love what you do, money will not be an issue. It will come when you are ready!
